General Admissions Requirements Academic Year
Applicants must be 16 years of age or more on 1st January of year of entry to the course. Applicants must satisfy one of the following general admissions requirements:
A. Leaving Certificate or Equivalent Examinations:
(i) HIGHER CERTIFICATE
Applicants must achieve a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations obtaining a minimum grade (OD3) in Mathematics, English or Gaeilge and
three other subjects. It is now Institute policy to accept a Pass in Foundation Level Mathematics at B2 level or higher as meeting the minimum entry requirements
for the following programmes:
- All Higher Certificates offered in the School of Science & Computing and the School of Business & Social Studies (with the exception of TL210 Higher Certificate
in Business (Advanced Business)
- Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Studies in Social Care
- Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Community Work Practice
- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Folk Theatre
- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Performing Arts
- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Childhood Care and Education
- Bachelor of Business (Honours)
(ii) ORDINARY DEGREE
Applicants must achieve a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations obtaining a minimum grade (OD3) in Mathematics, English or Gaeilge and three other subjects except for the programmes above.
(iii) HONOURS DEGREE
Applicants must achieve a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations in six subjects which must include Mathematics and English or Gaeilge and obtain an honours grade (HC3) in any two subjects and 4 pass grades (OD3) except for the programmes above.
OR
B. Mature Student Applicants:
Applicants must be over 23 years of age on 1st January on year of entry to programme to qualify as a mature student.
OR
C. Special Category Applicant:
Applicants may be considered under one of the categories listed in the Prospectus, e.g. apprenticeship, crafts, post-leaving certificates, etc.
Please note the following in relation to leaving certificate subjects:
GAEILGE
Bunleibhéil Gaeilge at B3 Level meets the minimum entry requirement. Points are not awarded for this subject. You should consult the relevant application documentation (e.g. CAO Handbook) for full details on application procedures.
