BA in TV Radio and New Media Broadcasting BA in Interactive Multimedia BA in Music Technology

The Digital Media Centre serves media related courses at the Institute of technology in Tralee,, Co. Kerry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This suite of media related programmes attracts a broad range of students from a selection of diverse backgrounds; some directly from school while many other successful applicants have been out of the education system for many years.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to gain acceptance onto any of these programmes. While we do not require you to submit a portfolio of work, it is strongly recommended that you should have a keen and developed interest in the chosen area of study be it Multimedia, Broadcasting or Music.

Acceptance onto to the programmes is facilitated through 3 major paths:

School Leavers path or STANDARD CAO Path
Access to these programmes via the CAO path is dependent on examination results. A large number of students come directly from the secondary school system having completed the Leaving Cert, or an equivalent examination. Entry points and the number of places available vary from year to year, so applicants are advised to research the requirements for any given year with their Career Guidance Officer. Note that it is not strictly required that you study Art or Music for the Leaving Cert to qualify for these programmes.

FETAC Path
Applicants who have completed a related FETAC course and secured a full FETAC award with a distinction in a least three modules may apply for any of the media related programmes. The Institute of Technology Tralee programmes and certain cogent FETAC courses have sought to become more closely aligned in recent times. In some cases we support the application of students into the second year of our programmes. Make sure to research whether your chosen FETAC option allows for this transition.

NON-STANDARD Applicant Path
If you are not a School Leaving CAO applicant, or if you are not doing a FETAC course, then this option may be the most relevant to you.
This path allows access to our programmes for applicants coming from a broad array of backgrounds, among them are Mature Applicants (over 23); Applicants with School Leaving results from other countries; Applicants with disability or specific learning difficulty or specific health conditions; Applicants with other specified programmes/experience; Applicants from groups currently under-represented in third level.

Applicants who wish to avail of this option must also fill out the CAO form before the 1st February 2010 deadline, but are not required to have a leaving certificate or the minimum entry points. As part of your application process you will be invited to attend a short interview here at the institute. During this interview you will meet with lecturers from the programme involved and they will discuss your application with you. It is in not necessary to bring a portfolio of work, however, we will try to view any samples of work you bring along either during or after the interview where possible.

Further information on general entry requirements is available here on the Institutes’ Web Site. You may also contact the admissions office if you have any other queries on +353 (0)66 7145638 or e-mail info@staff.ittralee.ie
