What is the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Interactive Multimedia about?

In the simplest of terms interactive multimedia is a combination of digital video, interactive programs, internet content, graphics, audio, 3-D animation, 2-D illustration and any other media used to communicate a message, or tell a story. The focus of this course is to foster creativity thus enabling the student to design and develop multimedia content while working in a digital environment. The course offers exceptional opportunities for students to explore their potential across a broad range of activities such as concept design, critique skills, interaction design, multimedia design, authorship, broadcasting, film, music technology and business applications.

How is the course delivered?

Creativity and innovation are encouraged through the use of different methods of programme delivery and assessment, such as interactive on-line learning, group discussions, critique sessions, workshops and dedicated seminars delivered by guest lectures, hands-on projects and studio work. Assessments are largely project based, students will work independently on some projects, always with guidance from their lecturers, and as part of a group for larger projects. An integral component of the degree is work placement in the third year of the programme, which will allow students gain experience in a commercial environment, or alternatively students may choose to work as part of an existing organisations designing multimedia content on a voluntary basis.

What are my career opportunities?

On completion of this course, students will be provided with a comprehensive range of skills enabling them to design and produce content for interactive multimedia titles or for print. In addition, students will devise broadcast content and apply production techniques to publish and broadcast both locally and globally. The main areas of employment as a graduate of the BA (Hons) in Interactive Multimedia are multimedia content, CD/DVD/web design and production, mobile devices, communications, media designer, creation of visual designs, web services, broadcasting radio, television and web, localisation services and publishing, 2D and 3D modelling and animation, interface design/evaluation, video conferencing education and e-learning.

I enjoy every element of this course because it will provide me with a variety of skills including graphic design, web design, video use, audio, animation and developing critical thinking. There is a great atmosphere in college and lecturers are very friendly and helpful. Choosing IT Tralee was my best decision and my course will provide me with great career opportunities.
