I have recently completed a two year Tourism Hospitality Studies course with the Institute of Technology, Tralee. The course prepared me for a wide variety of operational roles in the hospitality industry. It provided excellent opportunity to gain experience in more than one area of hospitality operations which might help you to decide which particular department you would like to work in. What I loved about the course was that training covered both theory and practice; I was able to practice my skills working in the Institute’s restaurant and during work based learning. Among other subjects I also studied food and beverage operations, professional wine studies, rooms division with accommodation and front office operations. I believe that the two year Hospitality Studies course has given me a great foundation for taking on any challenge in the hospitality industry- it allowed me to get place in Dunloe Castle Hotel, a five star hotel in Killarney- working as the Accommodation Supervisor. In 2008 I graduated with the Advanced Certificate in Tourism Hospitality Studies. I won the Failte Ireland Prize for Student of the Year Award 2008. It made me even more proud to be a student of IT, Tralee
