What is the Higher Certificate in Business in Tourism about?

This higher certificate in Business Tourism specialises in cultural and heritage tourism and in business support services for tourists. There is a growing need for qualified personnel in this growing sector, which includes heritage centres, museums, managed historical sites, craft centres, sporting and activity centres and themed tourist attractions.

How is the course delivered?

The programme is designed to cover both theory and practice and includes work experience which can be carried out in Ireland or internationally. Familiarisation trips are a major feature of the programme. These may include national and international trips.

The Hotel, Catering & Tourism Department has a state of the art facility providing lecture theatres, project rooms, resource rooms and labs.

The programme gives students a thorough understanding of the tourism industry and develops the business and information technology skills necessary to pursue a career in tourism. Graduates may gain employment in the following employment categories such as travel advisors, tourist information office, tour guide, administrative personnel in tourism related business or a career in the tourism retail industry.

Students are eligible to apply to year 3 BA in Travel and Tourism Management.




PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITY - LEVEL 8


Students are eligible to apply to year 4 BA (Hons) in Travel and Tourism Management having successfully completed level 7.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


(1)5 Leaving Certificate subjects at OD3.  English must be one of these subjects.  Foundation Maths at B2 is accepted.
(2) Full FETAC Level 5 Award (Any Discipline)
(3) Mature (23 on the 1st Jan on year of entry to Course)
(4) Leaving Certificate Applied with One year’s relevant industrial experience and successful passing of Institute Interview
