If you are seeking to study for a career which will encourage you to affect positive social change and to make a difference, then this is the degree for you. The Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Community Work Practice is a three year degree programme which prepares students for employment in youth work and in community work.
This exciting course provides a wide range of opportunities in areas such as youth work, juvenile justice and community work practice and development.
Teaching on this programme at the ITT is scheduled to enable students to experience field practice, as the course delivery combines standard lectures with practitioner-led seminars, site visits and two full semesters of practice placement in youth and community work sectors.
Confidence-building and skills development along with sound theoretical knowledge of the sector are emphasised on this three-year programme and staff teaching is supported by guest lectures, workshops and site visits, all of which aim to develop a wider professional engagement with the sector.
Graduates of the course can expect to find employment in the following areas: community development, family support, youth work and as project workers with specific target groups such as the homeless, youth diversion programmes, alcohol/ drug abuse and early school leavers programmes.
Students on the course study a wide range of subject areas which enable them to tackle social exclusion; increase community development capacity; promote social cohesion, improve multi-agency working and engage in reflective practice with young people and communities.
Satisfactory Garda Vetting is a mandatory part of registration for this programme. Failure to obtain satisfactory Garda Vetting will result in de-registration. Any offence and/or convictions arising after registration must be disclosed to the Institute immediately.The Institute reserves right to review the registration status of a student in light of additional information received subsequent to registration.
