The Physical Education of Ireland Conference & Annual General Meeting 2nd – 4th October, 2009, Fels Point Hotel, Tralee, Co. Kerry
Edel Randles: Lecturer, Dept. of Health & Leisure Studies, ITT, PEAI Conference Organising Committee.
The theme of this year’s conference is “The Power of PE: Towards Enhanced Citizenship and Self Empowerment”, which is being co-hosted by the Institute of Technology Tralee. An exceptional line up of presenters has been invited to deliver to this enlightening theme, while practical workshops have been organised to ensure that delegates will leave the conference both invigorated and full of tangible ideas to bring back to their schools. Back up resource materials in the form of DVDs, handouts and relevant reference material will ensure that everybody benefits from this particular conference. Professor Don Hellison, University of Illinois, Chicago will be the key note speaker on the opening Friday night, and he will also present a practical workshop on Saturday morning. Professor Hellison’s work focuses on the development, implementation and evaluation of alternative physical activity programme modules and structures that teach life skills and values, especially for underserved youth. His collaborative work with other Universities has culminated in the production of the book ‘Youth Development and Physical Activity: Linking Universities and Communities (2000).
