Institute of Technology, Tralee Awards Its First Thomas McEllistrim Memorial Scholarship Recipient
The Institute of Technology, Tralee recently named Ciara Rogers, a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in General Nursing student as the Instituteâ¿¿s first recipient of the Thomas McEllistrim Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship was established in 1974 to honour the memory of Mr Tom McEllistrim, TD, who was the founder of the Fianna Fáil party in Kerry in 1927 and served as a politician for the people of North Kerry for over 46 years.
Members of the McEllistrim family along with the Trustees of the fund presented a cheque for €1,000 to Ciara Rogers, a first year BSc (Honours) in General Nursing student at the Institute to assist her with her studies. Ms. Rodgers, a past student of Mercy Mounthawk secondary school in Tralee, was awarded the scholarship based on her outstanding Leaving Certificate results.
Commenting on her award, Ms Rogers said: â¿¿I was delighted to receive my award. Receiving this scholarship motivates me to continue to strive for excellence. The scholarship support will make it easier for me to study and fulfil my dreams of becoming a health professional.â¿
