Lee Strand Milk Art Competition 2009 Prize Giving Ceremony

The Lee Strand Milk Art Competition 2009 prize giving ceremony took place Friday, November 27th, 2009 in the Hotel, Catering & Tourism Building, at the Institute of Technology Tralee. The ceremony was attended by over 100 guests including principals, teachers, parents and students from nineteen schools in the Kerry and West Limerick region.

Roisin Lynch, Fifth Class, St. Brendanâ¿¿s NS, Fenit won the top prize of €1,000 for her school. Roisin was also presented with a Genesis sculpture to mark her achievement in the art competition, a €100 cheque and two framed copies of her winning mascot Mighty Mikey Milk Lee Strand.

A total of twenty prizes were presented at the ceremony, including ten Regional Winners, eight Class Winners: Junior Infants up to Sixth Class inclusive, a Special Achievement Award and the Overall Winner. All winners received €100 each and two framed copies of their artwork. The overall winner and the regional winnersâ¿¿ artwork will be displayed on Lee Strandâ¿¿s milk cartons and delivery trucks across the county and beyond from mid December.

Entry guidelines for the competition were to ⿿Design & Name the New Lee Strand Mascot⿿, while completing the following slogan ⿿Lee Strand milk is good for you because⿦⿿ The judging panel for the competition were Graham Bilcliffe, Design Manager, Tetra Pak UK & Ireland and Phillip Doyle, Multimedia Lecturer, Institute of Technology Tralee.

Speaking on the success of the art competition John O⿿Sullivan, General Manager, Lee Strand stated that ⿿The Lee Strand Milk Art Competition 2009 was a tremendous success, with exactly 2,131 entries received from primary schools in the Kerry and West Limerick region. We would like to congratulate all of the winners in the competition and thank every school who participated in the competition⿝.

Following the announcement of the overall winner Roisin Lynch spoke on her achievement ⿿I was delighted to win and glad to represent St. Brendan⿿s NS, Fenit. It is a great honour to be the overall winner, the prizes are fantastic and thank you Lee Strand⿝.

Aisling Oâ¿¿Sullivan, principal of St. Brendanâ¿¿s NS, Fenit said â¿¿We are very proud of Roisin and delighted to accept the cheque of €1,000 it will be well spent. We canâ¿¿t wait to see the Lee Strand delivery trucks and milk cartons with Mighty Mikey Milk Lee Strand, the winning mascot⿝.

Dr. Michael Hall, Acting Head of Department Chemical & Life Science/Health & Leisure, Institute of Technology Tralee stated "I'm really pleased to see so many entries to the competition. It's so important that children are encouraged to consider their environment. This initiative by Lee Strand and their generous rewards for the pupils and schools, is a great opportunity to have fun while developing environmental and social awareness in our children".
