Experiential Taster Programme in Professional Cookery
On Friday, April 1st at 2.30pm at the Institute of Technology, Tralee Hotel, Catering and Tourism Building, North Campus, TJ O'Connor, Head of Section and Lecturer of the Hotel, Catering and Tourism Department presented Certificates of Achievement to a group of 16 Traveller Women from Killarney who have successfully completed a four week Experiential Programme in Professional Cookery.
The programme provided hands-on, practical training incorporating demonstrations and group work, culminating in a production class last Friday where lunch for 30 people was served. Following lunch those who completed the programme were presented with their Certificates of Achievement.
To complement the programme at the ITT, in collaboration with Kerry Education Services, those on the course were also invited to attend workshop sessions on numeracy and literacy which ran weekly in Killarney.
The project was funded under Dormant Accounts and is one of a number of initiatives at ITT promoting access for under-represented groups to third level in collaboration with the Visiting Teacher for Travellers Service, the School Completion Programmes North and South Kerry and Kerry Travellers Development Project.
