Culinary Arts Students for Johnson and Wales Scholarship 2011

Culinary Arts Students  for Johnson and Wales Scholarship 2011 Two students from IT Tralee have just completed a three month scholarship at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. They were John O Connor and Patrick O Grady who graduated from Higher Certificate in Culinary Arts this year.

The Scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis in conjunction with Failte Ireland. The Students had the opportunity to experience such areas as Bakery, Pastry as well as Kitchen and Larder. Johnson And Wales have recently invested over $40 Million in new facilities on their Culinary Campus.

John O Connor decided to concentrate on the Bakery and Pastry aspect of the programme where he choose five modules from a wide selection, they were as follow Chocolate Work, Sugar Showpieces, Advanced Artisan Breads, Breakfast Pastries and Petit Gateaux. John said apart from the lectures there were also many fun activities to take part in while at JWU.

There are a wide array of societies and clubs to join such as Beer-making, Pastry Arts Club, Film Making, Eating Out Society, Greek Society and many many more. There is also a state of the art Gym, Sport Hall and running track. In my time at JWU I made many new and long term friends. I would like to take this opportunity to thank IT Tralee and Failte Ireland for the opportunity given to me.
