Kerry Football Trainer Pat Flanagan Honoured by Colleagues at the Institute of Technology Tralee

February 2nd, 2007, Tralee: A special function to mark Pat Flanagan’s retirement from the position of trainer for the Kerry Senior Football team was hosted by the IT, Tralee Governing Body in Tralee.

Pat was joined by his two children Patrick and Aoife at the function.  Representation from the IT, Tralee and the Kerry County Board gathered to hear the deservedly glowing tributes that were paid to Pat, with particular mention made of his commitment to promoting sports development and accessibility.  The tributes were paid by, among others, Chairman of the Governing Body; Flan Garvey, Director and Academic Administration and Student Affairs Manager; Dick Carmody.

Pat immersed himself in training the Kerry team and was the inspiration behind many victories.  Pat was part of the Kerry management team along with Jack O’Connor, Johnny Culloty and Ger O’Keeffe.  During their three year tenure, they managed to win two National League titles and two All-Ireland titles.

Pat Flanagan is the Head of Department – Chemical, Life and Health & Leisure Sciences
Pat has been instrumental with the development and recognition of successful programmes at the Institute of Technology, Tralee, including the first BSc in Health and Leisure Studies, the Adapted Physical Activity (APA) programme and most recently, a link with UL to the Graduate Diploma in Physical Education.

Pat is a former international sprinter for Ireland at 100 metre and 200 metre levels.  National champion at 100 metres (outdoor) and 60 metres (indoor).
