May 24, 2012 - ITT improve job prospects with 8 new Springboard courses
The Institute of Technology, Tralee today announced that 8 new Springboard courses will be offered and delivered by the Institute from 17th September 2012. The Institute was awarded €300,000 to run a range of courses from Export Sales/Marketing, Quality Management, Food Business Innovation, Applied Biology & Chemistry, Social Media & Web Analytics and Digital Marketing.
The part-time courses at undergraduate level, all validated on the National Framework of Qualifications (levels 6 – 8) will be delivered by various departments at the IT Tralee. The programmes offer part-time places for job-seekers throughout the region and they will be delivered in a flexible manner so as to accommodate students who might not otherwise be able to follow the standard mode of study.
Springboard, which was launched in 2011, is targeted at those who were previously working but lost their jobs or were made redundant and who, with some upskilling, could fill current or future job shortages. Those who undertake the courses will retain their benefits and if they find a job, they will still be permitted and encouraged to finish their course.
The eligibility criteria for Springboard 2012 have been expanded to include people who were previously self-employed and people in receipt of an extended number of social welfare payments such as the Disability Allowance and the Carer’s Allowance. In addition a Freephone Guidance line 1800 303523 is also being put in place to assist people with course choices and applications.
Commenting on this announcement Ms. Brid McElligott, Head of Development at the Institute of Technology, Tralee said ‘the Institute has successfully offered a number of Springboard Labour Market Activation programmes since February 2009. The mixture of flexible learning and the Institute’s industry links means that we can offer unique opportunities for those who are unemployed or seeking up-skilling. These courses provide an opportunity for people to build on existing qualifications so they can get new jobs in different areas.’
Prospective students can apply online for courses through www.springboardcourses.ie a single web portal for all Springboard related activities. Closing date for applications is Wednesday 5th September.
