Jun 7, 2012 - IT Tralee Computing Student wins first MONEX Financial Services Award
Institute of Technology, Tralee 3rd Year BSc. Computing with Software Development student Kevin Smith, a native of Ballyduff, recently received the award for Outstanding Third Year C# Programmer sponsored by MONEX Financial Services. As part of the award Kevin will receive a three month internship within MONEX Financial Service software development group worth €3,000 as well as €300 prize money.
Kevin used the modern software development language called C# (pronounced "C Sharp") to create a very challenging mobile phone application. His project was a Draughts Game for Windows Phones. Kevin’s fresh approach to the project included his use of design patterns, code re-factoring and software testing, as well as well written and structured code.
This is the first year that MONEX Financial Services has offered such an award which is an exclusive collaborative arrangement with IT Tralee. The Institute continually encourages students to develop the practical skills required to succeed in the software profession and this award, which was open to any 3rd year computing student encouraged participants to use best practise in the design and implementation of their Degree software projects.
Brian Kiely, Chief Technology Officer at MONEX said ‘the competition was a great success and we are delighted to be associated with IT Tralee and their computing department. Kevin did an excellent job and demonstrated outstanding software development skills. Joining the MONEX team this summer will be very beneficial for both of us’.
