Institute of Technology Tralee is proud to announce FITTSPORT 2014 - the ITT Fitness Convention which will run on Friday Feb 21st in the Brandon Hotel, Tralee. The convention is an ideal opportunity for all individuals working in the area of fitness and coaching to update themselves on the latest research and ideas from the world of sport and fitness.
The programme kicks off with a keynote lecture from Dr. Niamh Murphy, WIT, on the impact that mass participation events have on physical activity levels. Kerry is home to many of these events with the Tralee marathon, Ring of Kerry Cycle and Dingle Adventure Race to name but a few.
This will be followed with a forum full of the top coaching tips from Joe O’Connor (Trainer with Clare all-Ireland winning hurling team) and Martin Kennedy (Trainer with Dublin all-Ireland winning football team). This session will be an open question and answer session so an ideal opportunity to discover the secret of success from these two professionals.
Fittsport is packed with workshops on nutrition, strength and conditioning, holistic youth coaching to name but a few. Aoife Hearne from RTE’s Operation Transformation will present her latest nutrition research on fuelling teams and athletes for optimal performance. Martin Kennedy from the National Athlete Development Academy will present on the importance of holistic development of youth is sport.
Dr. Mark Lyons from the University of Limerick will gave the latest developments on the need for specificity in strength and conditioning training. The afternoon will also have a master class in HITT (high intensity interval training) from Les Mills’s international presenter – Giovanni Sacco.
Sessions on mindfulness are included along with a breathing workshop from breathing coach Eoin Burns.
