Over 150 Free Springboard Places on Offer at IT, Tralee for September 2014
The Institute of Technology, Tralee today announced that 8 new Springboard courses will be offered and delivered to 157 adult learners by the Institute from September 2014. Courses on offer will enable eligible candidates to gain qualifications in areas such as Animation, Culinary Skills, Digital Marketing with Social Media, Export Sales and Marketing with French/German, Creative Media, Front Office and Accommodation Operations, Digital Advertising and Business Administration. In addition 50 places will be offered on the Higher Diploma in Applied Computing as part of the ICT Skills Initiative. The total funding awarded to the Institute was €854,319 which was announced by the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn, TD at the national Springboard launch in Dublin this morning.

The Springboard initiative in higher education offers free, part-time courses leading to qualifications that are in demand among employers. Those currently in receipt of payments from the Department of Social Protection will retain their benefits and will not be liable for third level fees. Prospective students can apply online for courses through The programmes offered by the IT, Tralee are delivered in a flexible manner so as to accommodate students who might not otherwise be able to follow the standard mode of study.

Commenting on the announcement Brid McElligott, Head of Development at the IT, Tralee said, ‘the programmes on offer are designed to help people who have lost their jobs, or were previously self-employed and who need to up-skill or re-skill to gain sustainable employment. Previous participants on Springboard programmes at IT, Tralee have had significant success to date, now enjoying new careers or undertaking further third level studies. A number of the Springboard programmes also offer an element of work-placement or company internship which offer excellent opportunities for future employment.”

Members of the Lifelong Learning Department at IT, Tralee will be available over the coming weeks at Social Welfare offices around the county to provide information on the courses and advise potential students looking at a return to education.
