Thousands are expected to attend two free information roadshows this week, in Dublin and Cork, where information on where job opportunities are in Ireland as well as courses to upskill will be available. The events focus on the Springboard programme, which this year offers over 6,000 free third level places to jobseekers.Springboard, managed by the Higher Education Authority, was launched last week and already almost 3,000 people have applied for places on 171 courses on offer. The two roadshows see the participation of major employers, including Hewlett Packard, Opel, IBM, Ericsson, Microsoft, Paypal, Nypro, Dairygold and many others.
One to one career advice is available to all who attend and representatives from the Department of Social Protection will also be on hand to answer any queries.
The Dublin roadshow takes places at CHQ at the Financial Services Centre, Dublin 1 on tomorrow, Tuesday 17th June from 10.30am to 4.30pm while the Cork roadshow is at the Metropole Hotel, Cork from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Thursday 19th June.
The roadshows will also have a twist, in the form of a dynamic visual installation called 'More than food on the table' which debuts at the roadshows - a 40m banqueting table full of objects, images and testimonials that celebrate as well as demystify the range of new and expanding industries in Ireland today
Springboard co-ordinator, Dr. Mary Liz Trant, said,
"We have many talented people in Ireland currently seeking work and many great companies seeking employees with specific skills. These roadshows provide the opportunity for the two groups to meet and for jobseekers to identify free courses that will give them the skills to land those jobs."
