Secondary School Teaching Training

Teaching is a popular occupation for graduates. You should contact secondary schools and request an opportunity to shadow a teacher for 7-10 hours. Alternatively you may get some supervisory work. This will assist your teaching application.

Primary School Teaching

Each year a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education is delivered subject to approval by the Department of Education. Details of training colleges and other information is available at  Primary Teaching .

You should contact secondary schools and request an opportunity to shadow a teacher for 7-10 hours. Alternatively you may get some supervisory work. This will assist your teaching application.

It is possible to  complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Ireland if you have a minimum of a Leaving Certificate grade C in the higher paper.

It is also possible to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in   Education in the UK without the honours Irish, however you will have to complete an Irish test once you return to Ireland to teach. Please read the following and  **Teaching Council Up-Date** .
