Christina Boland is the Third Level Traveller Access Officer for Mature Students and Star Pupils. Christina is from a Traveller background herself and is available to offer confidential advice and support to Traveller students in the college.
She also works in the community to encourage Travellers to apply to IT Tralee and can be contacted on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the college term.
The service involves:
Working with Travellers and Traveller organisations to promote the programmes, services and facilities available within the Institute of Technology, Tralee
Facilitating engagement with the Institute relating to access to third level education needs and gaps in provision of courses and support services to members of the Traveller Community
Facilitating engagement by members of the Traveller Community in courses at IT Tralee
Facilitating an access programme, in partnership with other relevant organisations for interested Traveller groups
Reporting on Travellers' and Institute's experiences of programme development.
Developing and maintaining positive links between the Institute of Technology, Tralee and the Travelling Community
Katie Coffey is the Third Level Traveller Access Officer for Junior Cycle students. Based at IT Tralee’s North Campus, Katie’s role is to promote access to third-level for Traveller students in Junior Cycle in mainstream second-level schools in Kerry. Katie will provide information on supports that are available in the schools and in the community to help students. Katie is available on Thursdays.

Star Pupil Access To Education Programme
The Star Pupil Access to Education Programme provides information, guidance, support and summer work placement opportunities to students from the Traveller community who are in fifth year of a mainstream second-level school in Co. Kerry.
The Institute has a direct application procedure in addition to the CAO route for Star Pupils who successfully complete their Leaving Certificate. IT, Tralee reserves a number of its third-level places for participants who complete the Star Pupil programme.
In order to be eligible for one of these places, the Star Pupil must complete the access programme and also meet the reduced entry requirements for their chosen course(s) of study at IT, Tralee. Contact the Third-Level Traveller Access Officer for more information.
