This website is designed to support all students in making the move into third level courses. The academic demands of a third level course are very different from those you have been used to in second level and this site has very useful tips on how to deal with those demands and quickly improve your study skills in third level. It will guide you on how to set up an effective study system, how to take effective lecture notes and retain that key information. It will help you later on with your revision programme
Students with Dyslexia/Learning Difference
The Institute of Technology Tralee welcomes students with dyslexia/learning difference on to their full range of courses .A comprehensive Support Service has been established to provide students with a wide range of support.
It is fully understood that individual students with dyslexia/learning difference have different needs; some may wish for a lot of support, some may only wish for general advice. Each student is considered as an individual with his or her own learning history.
The Dyslexia Support Service is a confidential service and any information forthcoming about a student is given only with their full consent.
Dyslexia Support Tutor
IT Tralee has provided a dedicated support tutor to work within the college offering support and advice both to students with dyslexia/learning difference and to the staff involved with them. The Dyslexia Support Tutor works among students aiming to:
- Identify and assess individual support needs through interview with student and consultation of Psycho-Educational Documentation.
- Initiate individual programmes of learning support.
- Communicate the programmes of learning support to all staff working with students.
- Monitor and liaise with /on behalf of the students as they progress through their course.
- Introduce students to assistive technology to support their studies.
The Dyslexia Support Tutor works with the understanding that at third level the students are in control of their own learning, the role of the support tutor is to facilitate them through their course work.
