  Aquatics 3 and 4.Full swimming teaching training award completed.

Module Description/Aims:

  The aim of this module is to prepare students to programme, design, plan, adapt and deliver/lead programmes in the aquatic sector of the leisure industry to a variety of ability groups, while meeting group and individual needs. Students will enhance their own development and that of the participants they teach from the community.

On successful completion of the module, the learner will be able to:

1Create, plan, organise and deliver aqua fitness activities to a variety of ability groups and show an ability to cater for individual needs.
2Demonstrate an ability to reflect objectively on performance in a movement or teaching setting.
3Develop aquatic programmes to cater for the needs of individuals and groups including those of advanced aquatic ability.
4Describe the mechanical principles of water and how they effect the human body when immersed in water.
5Describe the physiological effects of exercise in water and the principles of training as applied to aqua fitness and aquatic activities.

Learning Strategies
Leisure skills (Aquatics) practical : The Aqua fitness teaching element operates through a variety of teaching methods including whole part whole, part/whole and "add on" technique teaching strategy. Initially it is covered through master class sessions. This is followed by students teaching groups from the community. The work includes experiential learning through teaching and participating, designing programmes to meet group and individual needs,peer observation, review and reflective practice. Core text were identified to meet the requirements of the learning outcomes of the course.
Leisure Skills (Aquatics) Theory:The theoretical knowledge underpinning the competence and skills requirement of an aquatic teacher for a variety of aquatic programmes are taught through theory classes that refer continuously to elements covered in practical classes.Teaching the subject in this manner i.e through both theoretical classes and practical enable reflective practice and reinforcement of learning.
