Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered using lectures, tutorials and practicals/workshops via both online and face-to-face sessions (blended learning). The primary focus will be consideration of the professional practice skills addressed in preparation for participation in an ECCE practicum.

Content Detail
Reflective Practice and Reflective Writing• Introduction to experience, reflection and action (ERA) models of reflection and critical incidents (as distinct from a contemporary understanding of critical incident/emergency planning).
• Introduction to the skills, purposes and ethical implications of reflective practice and writing.
• Integration and linkage of cross-curricular learning and the curriculum guidelines for children under six years (Aistear, Siolta) into reflective practice.
Supervison• Introduction to the purposes of professional supervision, the supervision partnership and the role of the supervisor.
Facilitation Skills and Group Work• Understanding facilitation skills, including the dynamics of group work.
Leadership and Management in the Early Years• Models of leadership, leadership and management, and transformational leadership.
Multidisciplinary Teamwork• Identifying the benefits and challenges of multidisciplinary practice.
• Asserting the profession in a multidisciplinary context.
Anti-Discriminatory Practice and Valuing Diversity• Anti-discriminatory practice including the PCS (personal, cultural, structural) analysis framework.
• Employing strategies as a worker and an agency in challenging discrimination and oppression and promoting equality and diversity.
