  This module emphasises education as a continuum and is designed as a recognition of the importance of Aistear: the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework in Ireland. It necessitates that students know how to design, modify and assess a curriculum that mirrors the needs of the child at an individual level.

KnowledgeApplication of the knowledge of curriculum through a study of curriculum design techniques based on international and national models of early years curricula for children under six years of age; how to apply the concept of holistic development to the early years curriculum in a developmentally appropriate way; the need for breadth and balance in a curriculum that incorporates all the developmental domains in an integrated and interrelated way; the application of sound pedagogical practice that recognises the need for a balanced approach to be adopted between child initiated and adult initiated activities; relational pedagogy as a foundation for pro-social behaviour; how to accommodate the concept of diversity throughout the curriculum; the Primary School Curriculum and its role in the continuum of education; differentiation and assessment in an early years curriculum; how assessment links with learning; the `quality issue• in relation to early years curricula.
