Module Description/Aims:

  This module aims to:
Teach students appropriate methodologies which enhance learning in early childhood
Provide students with opportunities to prepare developmentally appropriate activities for young children
Prepare and enable students to situate the ECCE environment within a changing cultural and social context and to respond appropriately

1Plan developmentally appropriate learning activities for babies and young children
2Select and employ a variety of observation methods suitable for the ECCE setting
3Plan an ECCE environment that supports children's emerging skills, particularly mathematical and literacy skills.
4Support the child's emerging and developing knowledge of Mathematical concepts through play.
5Practise the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in a developmentally appropriate fashion.
6Identify the importance of the various stages of language development.
