Module Description/Aims:

  This module aims to initiate the process of setting up your own business. It will develop the students entrepreneurial skills as they relate to opportunity recognition and creative ideation in a start-up business. The module will focus on fostering an entrepreneurial attitude and motivation amongst students required to set up a business. Students will engage in the process of developing a business plan for their own idea. They will view and examine the opinion of different entrepreneurs from a commercial and social context. Students will explore and apply the components of a business plan to their idea. They will interact with and pitch their business idea to a panel of entrepreneurs for funding opportunities.

Learning Strategies
This module is designed to be delivered using blended learning using online and face to face workshops at beginning and during the module affording the students the opportunity to acquire entrepreneur skills and to interpret and apply the relevant theories and concepts. These teaching and learning strategies will include lectures, online quizes, multi media videos, group exercises, directed online discussions, blogs and virtual class interaction, seminars and guest speakers.<br>
A list of Entrepreneurial mentors will be made available at the beginning of the module. Where agreed the students may interact with these mentors via email throughout the module. The students will also interact with the mentors on an online business stress test panel and as members of the panel for the final pitching of the proposed solution.
Workshops will take place at the beginning of the module and after week 9. The first workshop will focus on the requirements of the module, instructions on the online technologies to be used in the module and team building exercises. The second workshop will focus on pitch preparation, role playing and practice.
