Module Description/Aims:

  This module aims to equip people with the knowledge, skills and competence necessary to function as a facilitator of lifestyle workshops with groups of adults on the following topics: being active, eating well, dealing with stress, enjoying the whole of ones health. This aspect of the module is based upon the Being Well training pack & other such programmes devised by the Department of Health & Children Health Promotion Unit. The module also aims to examine the facilitation and adult learning theory and practical application necessary to effectively deliver such workshops. Participatory learning & action (PLA) strategies are explored as a theory and practiced as a methodology for use on micro and macro levels.

Learning Strategies
This module consists of two parts, two theory lectures per week and two practical sessions. The practical sessions will give students the opportunity to experience the application of theory to practice in lifestyle workshop sessions. Following that students will be required to co-facilitate lifestyle workshop sessions with a peer for delivery to a group of peers. In addition they will be required to critically review their performance and the performance of others in the context of theoretical elements covered on the course.

Resourcing & ModifyingResource issues & the lifestyle programme planning & Being Well programme. Resourcing other lifestyle programmes. Adapting programmes to the needs specific groups e.g. low literacy, ageing and older people.
PLAPLA approaches and methods include: diagramming, mapping, ranking, interviewing, seasonal calendars, matrices, card sorts, collages, group work, timelines, trend and change analysis, oral testimonies, case-studies, stories, participant observation, on-the-spot analysis, and more.

The assessment strategy is reflective of the nature of content covered in syllabus content. It covers various modes of assessment ,from practical to written exam. It incorporates work on self-reflection and constructive comment on others.
