  This module is designed to develop students¿ understanding of optimising the health and well-being of all children as well as an appreciation of common chronic conditions, disorders and developmental delay in children and the broader issues associated with promoting the health and well-being of all children and their families.

5Describe possible causes, epidemiology and characteristics of common chronic conditions in children.

Content Detail
Child Health and Well BeingExamine issues to optimise the health and well-being of all children; explore the broader determinants of health including social and emotional well-being of children and families, addressing social inequalities in child health; examine common chronic conditions in children and address best practice in terms of management of these conditions; introduction to genetic and congenital disorders and developmental delay; examine issues associated with prematurity and low birth weight; examine the role of screening, surveillance, immunisation and early intervention in promoting children• s well-being and the impact of developmental delay on families in keeping with contemporary theories of grief; investigate major child public health problems such as the rise of obesity and asthma in young children; explore children• s understanding of and perspectives on health and well-being; introduce the key principles of health promotion and strategies to promote children's health and well-being from an ecological framework.
