Prerequisite Knowledge:

  All career clarification knowledge and skills acquired during Year 1 and Year 2 on the Health & Leisure Programme

Module Description/Aims:

  This module will enable the initial preparation of students for their work placement in Semester 6.
It is intended to provide the learner with the pre-requisite human resource development knowledge, skills and competencies pertinent to working within the sport, health, leisure and wellness industries. Industry settings will be studied, emphasising the importance of the co-ordination and development of both volunteers and paid staff. The module will give students the opportunity to develop career pathways.
Students will engage in a work based learning ethnographic project while on work placement, analysing and critiquing HRD practices

Positive organisational development and flourishing will underpin the module.

Learning Strategies
The module will be delivered using a combination of lectures, tutorials & practical group work sessions. Theoretical aspects will be presented in lecture format, guest lectures will inform specific work placement preparation (Career?s officer, past graduates). Practical group work sessions will facilitate intra and interpersonal development through role play, simulations & applied learning

Assessment Strategies
Students will develop a PDP prior to work placement, matching their own attributes with their chosen placement site in Semester 5, complete with weekly work sheets facilitating intrapersonal development and career orientation.
An in-class assessment will take place during Semester 6, and students will undertake a major work based learning ethnographic project, analysing HRD practices applied therein.
