Module Description/Aims:

 
This module is suitable for health and social care professionals seeking to develop their personal effectiveness and leadership capacity in the context of current structural and professional change in the Irish Health Services. It will promote critical reflection on leadership, change and partnership. The module is designed to integrate the Health Services Executive personal competency assessment tool and the development of a personal development plan to enhance personal effectiveness and leadership capability.

1Develop and apply a systematic critical understanding, knowledge and skills in interprofessional leadership to organisational change /policy initiatives to promote service quality and safety
2 Evaluate and apply complex theories and concepts of leadership and change that underpin interprofessional practice and generate new skills and work practices through critical reflection.
3Systematically gather, interpret, synthesise and evaluate information /evidence from a diverse range of sources ,including the perspective of stakeholders in relation to organisational change/policy and apply this information/evidence to promote service quality and safety
4Identify challenges to service improvement/safety and generate strategies to address these challenges in the context of interprofessional leadership of organisational change or implementation of policy

Leadership Theory/Leadership PracticeThis section will focus on current research in relation to interprofessional leadership from both health and social care and the wider world of business
It will explore the implications/application of theory to advancing practice to promote service safety and quality
Change theory and practiceThis section will examine the dynamics of advancing practice based on change theory/research with special emphasis on interprofessional working to promote service quality and safety
Interprofessional PracticeThis section will focus on strategies for collaborative /partnership working based on international experience to promote service quality and safety

Assessment Strategies
Students will discuss the challenges to service improvement and safety in the context of a scenario of interprofessional leadership or organisational change (1500 words).
Select one aspect of the scenario and in the context of the module learning outcomes discuss in detail its effect upon service improvement and safety (3000 words)
Repeat assessment strategy: This will entail the submission of a revised assignment(s) that demonstrate the satisfactory achievement of the module learning outcomes
