Module Description/Aims:

  ¿ This module is designed to prepare the learners to engage in outdoor and experiential learning activities as an individual participant and as a peer tutor.

¿ In the minor elective the aim is for students to partake in a variety of aquatic activities, appreciate the benefits of participation for various groups across the lifespan and to assist learners in their development as independent organisers of aquatic activities in an aquatic environment.

Learning Strategies
Learners will be experience a number of Adventure Activities in an Outdoor and Experiential Learning context.
Learners will be facilitated to act as peer tutors /animators with groups from other classes and/or visiting classes from community based groups.
Learners will be facilitated in review and reflection upon their outdoor learning experiences.
Learners will attend lectures on the theory of Outdoor Learning, leadership and safety in the outdoors.
Aquatic minor: Students will participate in stroke development and aquatic activities including aquafit, aqua jogging, aqua circuits, aqua interval training. Students will partake in basic rescue skills training.The work includes experiential learning through participating.In addition students will plan session plans for the variety of aquatic activities they participate in as part of a reflection portfolio.<br><br>

Assessment Strategies
A minimum attendance at practicals of 80% and achievement of 40% in practical assessment is required.
Learners will compile a portfolio of materials including their reflective journal, session plans and details of participation in class practicals and fieldtrips.
Final theory examination to assess both theory and practical components covered during the semester.
