On successful completion of the module, the learner will be able to:

1Deliver outdoor ethics awareness workshops, accredited by Leave No Trace Ireland.
2Climb on an artificial climbing structure using skills equivalent to NICAS level 2.
3Plan adventure activities for different learner groups and have an understanding of variations in group and individual needs/requirements.
4Apply the concept of Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) to elements from the primary curriculum
5Reflect on their outdoor learning as a participant and peer tutor.

Learning Strategies
Learners will be experience a number of Adventure Sports in an Outdoor and Experiential Learning context.
Learners will be facilitated in review and reflection upon their outdoor learning experiences.
Learners will attend lectures on the theory of OE and its role in school curricula and the wider community

Outdoor learning practicalsBuilding personal competence in climbing - reaching NICAS 2 standard.
Complete a canoe expedition with embedded Leave No Trace training:
• integrating the code of practice into adventure activities
• adapting content for primary school children
• developing games and teaching resources
The use of Outdoor Learning activities with primary school children Apply Learning Outside The Classroom (LOTC) ethos to an outdoor learning programme. Specific design of Outdoor Learning activities as part of the primary school curriculum. Specifically Primary Physical Education, Social Personal and Health Education (S.P.H.E.), Social, Environmental and Scientific Education (S.E.S.E.) and Mathematics.
Outdoor ExpeditioningBenefits of outdoor expeditions.
Planning an expedition.
Personal Development in Outdoor and Experiential LearningOutward Bound.
High Quality Standards in Outdoor and Experiential Learning.
Incorporating learning into outdoor experiences - LNT, LOTC, group specific requirements (i.e. feedback, teamwork etc.).

Assessment Strategies
A minimum attendance at practicals of 80% and achievement of 40% in practical assessment is required.
Learners will compile a portfolio of materials including their reflective journal, session plans and details of participation in class practicals and fieldtrips.
Final theory examination to assess both theory and practical components covered during the semester.
