  This module aims to introduce students to the area of Disability Studies and Adapted Physical Activity (APA) and to prepare them to work in the area of Physical Activity with people with Disabilities through a cooperative programme

Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered through lecture and practical format. The lectures will provide the theoretical underpinning for the module area, while the practicals will allow the students to gain experience working with people with disabilities in a practical setting. The practicals will initially include simulations of different situations and will culminate in planning and delivery of a number of practical session with people with disabilities

Current status of people with disabilitiesReview of service provision and disability legislation
Considerations for exercise prescriptionPhysiology of various conditions, implications for exercise programme design. Least Restrictive Environment Provision.
Programme Design and DeliveryModels of programme and lesson design in APA. Reflective Practice. Including participation and planning of practical sessions
Disability SportExamination of sports structures and provision in Disability Sport at home and abroad. Classification for competition. Coaching elite athletes with a disability

Assessment Strategies
Assessment is split between Continuous Assessment (CA) and a final written exam. The CA component will include a reflective logbook evaluating each of the practical sessions and a mid-term exam. A minimum of 75% attendance at the practical classes is required to complete the CA.
