Module Description/Aims:

  This module aims to give the student the knowledge and skills to design, implement and assess physical education/activity sessions for people with disabilities in both inclusive and segregated settings.

On successful completion of the module, the learner will be able to:

1implement and have knowledge of Motor Skill assessments, Motor Activity Programmes, International Classification of Functioning and Ecological Task Analysis
2Understand Instructional design and teaching styles and how these impact on classroom management strategies in segregated and inclusive settings
3develop Personal Development plans, (Person centred practice) and Individual Education Plans for PE and physical activity
4plan, deliver, assess and reflect on a series of activity sessions or PE classes for a group or individual for the semester
5summarise leisure and recreation provision throughout the lifespan, Health Related Fitness, fitness evaluation methods for people with disabilities and complete a basic access audit for a leisure/sports facility.
6demonstrate knowledge of National and International Disability Policy, Disablism, Marginalisation in society

Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered through lecture and tutorial and practical format. The lectures will provide the theoretical underpinning for the module area, while the practicals will allow the students to implement a series of classes for people with disabilities under supervision. The tutorial will assist the student to review and reflect on their delivery and plan for future sessions
