Role and purpose of researchThe importance of adopting an evidence based approach to practice
History of the development of the various research approaches: Explaining the scientific method: hypothesis generation, theory development
Examining the various schools of thought and epistemologies in the research
Introduction to research methods:Distinguishing between quantitative and qualitative methods and understanding the relative advantages and disadvantages of each
Data collection : Utilising both qualitative and quantitative methods (questionnaires, interview schedules, focus groups, observation, action research)
Evaluating & Interpreting different kinds of informationPrimary and secondary sources
Analysis & Interpretation of research data: (both qualitative & quantitative • training in excel & content analysis)
