Overview

This Certificate in Mentoring and Education is a Programme for Access to Higher Education 3 (P.A.T.H.) initiative which was designed for the Community in consultation with community partners.

The Certificate in Mentoring in Education will introduce participants to the role of a peer mentor (*) and how to be an effective role model, mentor and support person for students, parents and individuals within the Community at large.

It will also aim to provide participants with an understanding of the Irish education system, its structures, governance and procedures.

The niche skills and practices developed with this level 6 programme will allow for graduates to look for opportunities in the area of mentoring in the community and access to education.

(*) Peer mentoring is a relationship between people in which one person has more experience than the other in a particular domain and can provide support as well as knowledge and skills transfer.

With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

Fees

Fees do not apply to applicants who are successful in gaining entry to the course.

There is a standard weekly allowance to cover participation in the course.

Applicants will have the option of applying for the Student Assistance Fund after registration in January if additional support is needed.
