International Admissions Policy

Undergraduate Year 1

For entry to year 1 of undergraduate programmes applicants must have completed an academic award equivalent to the Levels 4/5 (EQF Level 3/4) on the Irish national framework of qualifications.

* Completion of an award equivalent to Levels 4/5 (EQF Level 3/4) on the Irish national framework of qualifications is the minimum required to submit an application for entry and does not guarantee that the application will be successful.

Country Specific requirement

China

Senior High School Diploma /General Senior Secondary Graduation Examination (Huikao) (¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿), including English, Mathematics with an average grade of 75% or above.

Ghana

West Africa Examinations Council Senior Secondary Certificate Examination as follows –

Minimum of 5 credit passes (3 X B grade + 2 X C6 and above) to include English & Maths.

Maths must be at B grade or higher for Engineering, Science & Computing programmes.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority HKDSE exam as follows:

Honours Degree( Level 8): Applicants must have a HKDSE level 4, or higher, in three subjects, and a minimum of level 3 in any other three HKDSE subjects. Where an applicant has chosen other language subjects in the HKDSE, a grade c or higher will be required.

Ordinary Degree ( Level 7): Applicants are required to have a minimum of Level 3 in 5 HKDSE subjects (including Maths and English). Where an applicant has chosen a language in the HKDSE a grade C, or higher will be required

India

Standard XII examinations (Year 12) – cumulative score of 65% and above from the following state boards: CBSE, ISC/ICSE

Metro state boards (Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal)

Students from other state boards will require Year 12 Grade – cumulative score of 70%.

Indonesia

Ijazah Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA)

Malaysia

Grade C in the Cambridge GCE O Level English 1119 is accepted as valid for entry.

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM )

6 B grades would be required. ( 5 credits) – should include English.

UEC (from the Chinese High schools)

5 B grades would be required. (5 credits) – should include English.

English Grade should be min B6.

MQA Validated Foundation programme

Foundation program with minimum score of 60%

English Language Minimum Requirement: Grade C in the Cambridge GCE O Level English 1119 is accepted as valid entry.

Nigeria

WAEC West Africa Examinations Council Senior Secondary Certificate Examination as follows –

Minimum of 5 credit passes (3 X B grade + 2 X C6 and above) to include English & Maths.

Maths must be at B grade or higher for Engineering, Science & Computing programmes.

National Examination Council NECO Examination as follows –

Minimum of 5 credit passes (3 X B grade + 2 X C6 and above) to include English & Maths.

Maths must be at B grade or higher for Engineering, Science & Computing programmes.

South Africa

Senior Certificate (with matriculation endorsement) with minimum grades BBCCC or a National Senior Certificate with minimum grades of 66555.

Thailand

Certificate of Secondary Education / Certificate of Completion Grade 12 / Maw 6

Minimum of 2 X Numerical grade 3

GPA 2.0

Uganda

Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)
Minimum of 6 subjects between UACE and UCE (Uganda Certificate of Education) with a minimum of 2 Advanced subjects achieved with grade C.

or

Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate (COHSC): minimum average grade C

or

East African Advanced Certificate of Education: minimum average grade C

USA

High School Diploma: minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

plus

ACT: minimum score of 23

or

SATS: minimum score 1140

UK / A levels

Level 08 Minimum entry requirements 2 X grade Cs in A levels (advanced) + 4 other passes at AS or GCSE Grade C or better (a total of 6 DIFFERENT subjects) to include English and Mathematics.

Level 07 Minimum entry requirements 2 X grade Es in A levels (advanced) + 4 other passes at AS or GCSE Grade C or better (a total of 6 DIFFERENT subjects) to include English and Mathematics.

International Baccalaureate (IB exam)

Full IB Diploma, for which you must achieve a minimum of 26 points.

An IB Diploma completed with the following satisfies the literacy and numeracy requirements for University Entrance:

English as Language A at either Higher or Standard Level & any mathematics subject

Advanced Entry (direct entry to year 2, 3 or 4)

Applicants seeking advanced entry to an IT Tralee academic programme on the basis of prior learning will have their learning assessed within the Institute policy for the recognition of prior learning and applicants are invited to submit evidence of their learning achievements to date to determine the appropriate point of entry.

Articulation Agreements - Pre-Approved Advanced Entry ‘Pathways’

Institute articulation agreements document pathways between from colleges or universities onto specified entry points on Institute academic programs. Applicants who have attained the pre-determined academic award as can submit an application to avail of the entry point specified in the articulation agreement.

Postgraduate Programmes

Applicants for a taught postgraduate programmes including Master’s programme must normally have the equivalent of an Irish Level 8 Bachelor honours degree with a first or second class grade (a GPA Grade Point Average of at least 50% of the total available marks) in the relevant or appropriate subject area or equivalent prior learning that is recognised by the Institute for the purposes of this requirement.
