We want you to be successful in your studies and enjoy student life.The Institute offers academic support as well as a wide range of modern facilities to ensure that you can learn effectively.

Library

The library service at IT, Tralee provides a study and research facility on both the north and south campus. In 2009 a new three-storey Library and Information Resource Centre opened on the North Campus. The Library Service provides support and access to the information and resources which you need for your studies, including:

  • Expert support and guidance from professional library staff;
  • Access to more than 30,000 volumes plus subscriptions to more than 250 periodicals and journals;
  • An extensive collection of electronic resources including e-journals and e-books;
  • Flexible learning spaces - quiet study areas, a large group study room and project meeting rooms;
  • Computer areas with access to PCs with internet access;
  • Wireless internet access and lap-top connectivity throughout each library;
  • Reading rooms with PCs and wireless access for lap-tops;
  • A User Education Room for Information Literacy classes;
  • An Assistive Technology Room with hardware and software suitable for students with disabilities, including students with specific learning difficulties;
  • A fully-equipped Audio Visual Room.

The Library also holds extensive books and reference material available to industry, business and community groups who are encouraged to avail of the library facilities.

IT Facilities

Computer technology and applications form an integral part of almost all courses at IT, Tralee, giving students valuable 'hands-on' practical experience of the latest hardware and software. The Institute continues to invest significantly in information and computer technology. This investment ensures that students and staff have access to the most modern computer facilities. There are computer laboratories across the Institute including:

  • Unix/Linux Laboratories
  • Apple G5 Laboratories
  • Pentium Laboratories
  • Multimedia Laboratories
  • CAD Laboratories
  • Computer Based Training Laboratories
  • Networking and Software Development Laboratories
  • Language Laboratories
  • Cisco IP Telephony
  • Technology Enhanced Classrooms
  • Video Conferencing Facilities.

The Institute is connected to the Internet by high-speed resilient Gigabit connections enabling true broadband connectivity. In addition to general-purpose laboratories, IT, Tralee has specialised computer laboratories such as Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and dedicated language and multi-media laboratories. During the academic year the computer laboratories are available for student use outside class timetable hours, up to 10.00pm each weekday and up to .00pmon Saturday. Sports Facilities

Our sports facilities are available to all students, from casual participants looking for fitness and fun to star competitors aiming for national and international success. Various activities are organised on campus from recreational classes to sports events.

Our facilities include:

  • All-weather synthetic pitches which can accommodate Soccer, Hockey, Rugby, Gaelic Football and Hurling
  • Sand based GAA grass pitch
  • Sand-carpet Athletics Track
  • Extensive walking and jogging routes
  • Aerobics/Dance studio
  • Gym with the latest cardiovascular and resistance equipment and free weights area
  • Specialised physiological testing of athlete's fitness levels which takes place in the Sport, Health and Performance Evaluation Centre (SHAPE Centre).

The facilities are used primarily by the Institute's students, staff and clubs but are also available to external clubs and organisations.

Digital Media Centre

The radio studio is used by IT, Tralee students studying multimedia and broadcasting courses and is a great resource for training people in this fast growing area. The Radio Studio is part of the IT, Tralee Digital Media Centre - a state-of-the art digital production and post-production facility consisting of a:

  • TV Studio
  • Radio Studio
  • Recording Studio
  • Multimedia Editing Suite.

The IT, Tralee Radio Society broadcasts from the studio providing news and entertainment to students and staff on campus.

The Hotel, Catering and Tourism Building

Houses five state-of-the-art kitchens, a restaurant, bar, demonstration theatre, class and resource rooms.

The Sólás Nursing and Healthcare Facility

Includes auditoria, training hospital wards, function rooms, and classrooms.
