Admissions/Entry onto a Course
The Academic services Office processes your initial admission to IT, Tralee and applications/admissions to add-on Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree Courses. The office also registers students for each year of the course.

Options at Entry
Many students enter the Institute for a two year Higher Certificate level qualification and then on to the one year add-on Ordinary Degree followed by the add-on Honours Degree, which is known as the Ladder or Pathway system. Others go directly to a three-year ab-initio Ordinary Degree or to a four-year ab-initio Honours Degree.
Course Structure
Ladder and Pathway System option at entry
This system allows students the opportunity to progress to their maximum academic potential while achieving an award at each stage of their study. The course at IT Tralee are structured in a modular framework with progression paths to enable a student to move through the Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree, Primary/Honours Degree, Masters and PhD ladder system.
Graduates of the Institute may also apply for transfer or entry to similar courses in other Institutes of Technology.
Awards at Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree, Honours Degree and Post-graduate level are made by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) and the National Qualification Authority of Ireland (NQAI).
Ab-initio option at entry
Ab-initio means "from the beginning" and this programme option allows you to enter onto either a three-year Ordinary Degree or four-year Honours Degree .
Opportunities exist to obtain Masters or Doctorate Degree through taught masters and masters through research for those with a Primary/Honours Degree at Honours Level.
