The IT Tralee School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is a thriving community of just over 500 part-time and full-time students and 42 academic staff. The programmes are very practical and focus on the development of skills relevant to industry and employment as well as enhancing the learning and research capabilities of the individual participants. Students benefit from the Institute's extensive laboratory and workshop resources and links with external facilities as well as the broad range of staff expertise and experience. The School places a strong emphasis on professional and personal development. Our programmes focus on the practical problem-solving techniques and methods appropriate to each career. Students have opportunities to avail of various work placements which introduce the student to work-based learning and the development of essential life-long learning.

All of our programmes have a capstone final-year project which is designed to challenge students on real industry problems that require the integration of their knowledge and skills acquired over the course of the programme. The project work is assessed through a project report, presentations and a project poster.

The School is aligned to research centres located at the Institute operating in the key areas of biotechnology, mechatronic and sensor engineering as well as eco-tourism among others and has developed links and strategic alliances with regional and national industrial and educational partners to continue to develop and enhance programme provision and progression opportunities.
