Computing professionals are in high demand and short supply. The Computing courses in MTU prepare graduates to be problem solvers and innovative thinkers.

This is the most flexible of our Computing courses, allowing students to choose their specialisation, at the end of year 1. You will be given the opportunity to experience each of the two specialist areas before making your choice. These specialist areas are Software Development and Games Development. The courses are designed to develop your technical skills in the core areas of computing and your specialism while also developing the skills necessary for a successful career.

Work placement is an integral part of the course and a full semester, or equivalent is spent on work placement in third year, ensuring a smooth transition to the workplace when you graduate.

The first three years are common to both courses. Fourth year, which is undertaken by the students on the honours degree course, allows students to continue their studies at a more advanced level. Students undertake a capstone project using the knowledge gained through the four years of studies.

The Computing and Information Technology sector continues to be a driving force in our economy and the demand for graduates outstrips supply. This course produces graduates with the skills that are highly sought after by local, national and international employers. It has been designed using input from industry, graduates and students. These courses cover a comprehensive range of core computing areas, together with your chosen specialism, ensures that you have a solid foundation for a successful career. The heavy focus on programming and on workplace preparedness gives our graduates a keen edge in a competitive environment.

Depending on their particular skillsets, and specialisms our graduates find work in a variety of roles including software developer/programmer, network administrator, database developer, database administrator, data analyst, web developer, web manager, systems administrator.
