Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Centre

 

The centre is dedicated to the promotion and wider adoption of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) across the University and beyond.

There is a National Forum SATLE funded Project COIL in the MTU to support the adoption of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) across the University - please visit the project page for more information.

Virtual Exchange/Virtual Erasmus/COIL (collaborative online international learning) brings together students and lecturers in different countries for collaborative projects and discussions as part of their coursework (i.e. integrated into the academic programme). It could be a custom designed module or it could have as its focus the achievement of at least some of the current (or possibly adapted) learning outcomes of an existing module.

 

Benefits Of COIL

• Enhance internationalisation at home, by enabling those students who cannot take part in a mobility programme to have an international and intercultural experience without leaving their home institution, thus promoting a greater level of inclusion.
• Equip current student to become the global graduates of tomorrow with much-needed soft skills that improve employability, including the ability to work in a virtual and intercultural environment.
• Enhance competencies of teaching and administrative staff to work in an intercultural and international setting, also by adopting innovative ICT tools.
• Enrich the university mobility offer, by implementing pre-mobility activities devoted to outgoing/incoming students prior to their departure so as to deepen their intercultural and language preparation.
• Offer a new potential student experience as a taster to encourage students to further engage in international activity during or post study.
